The University at Albany seeks to hire an Assistant Director of the Honors College. The successful candidate will work closely with students, faculty, staff, and the community to ensure the success of Honors College programs and initiatives.

The Honors College is a four-year, student-centered program designed to fit all courses of study, so our scholars can tailor the program to their interests. Our students get the best of both worlds: the benefits and resources a prestigious Research I institution has to offer, and the small and supportive community the Honors College provides.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison between the Honors College and the Academic Programs with regard to:

  • -Course scheduling

  • -Honors in the Major

  • -Final project approval

  • -Coordinating cocurricular seminars

  • Coordinate assessment efforts for the Honors College. Work with Director to develop SMART goals each year. Collect necessary data to assess SMART goals and manage annual reporting process.

  • Manage course scheduling for the Honors College, including developing a multi-year plan for course offerings, identifying departmental instructors to supplement Honors College teaching capacity, and working with administrative staff to prepare and submit course schedule materials to Registrar's Office.

  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate student employees and volunteers.

  • Oversee alumni engagement opportunities, including maintaining a calendar of engagement options, developing and executing new events, and managing outreach to encourage alumni participation.

  • Work with Honors College student ambassadors to represent the Honors College at recruitment, fundraising, and other events, including presentations to groups of parents, prospective students, alumni, faculty, campus administrators, and community partners.

  • Serve on Honors Governing Board Committees.

  • Coordinate fall Honors Orientation and end of the year Honors College celebrations.

  • Help organize the annual Honors College retreat.

  • Consult with the director on matters of strategic planning to align with the University's strategic goals.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

  • Three years' experience working in an academic environment.

  • Experience maintaining data in Excel.

  • Experience working across different stakeholder groups in an academic environment.

  • Experience in alumni engagement, community outreach, event coordination, and/or recruitment activities.

  • Experience supervising graduate and/or undergraduate student employees and volunteers.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.

  • Experience working in an Honors College.

  • Experience working with high-achieving students.

    Additional Information:

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Senior Staff Assistant, SL3; $55,000-60,000.
