Job Summary/Basic Function:

This position serves as an advisor for study abroad and exchange programs at Boise State. This position provides a variety of support functions to education abroad students access Global Learning for assistance. The advisor assures excellence of international learning: including student learning, student services, faculty support, and emergency preparedness and response. The advisor will analyze, problem solve, collaborate and communicate with a broad variety of stakeholders on campus.

Department Overview:

The Center for Global Engagement advances Boise State University\'s global recognition as a metropolitan, research university and provides leadership and coordination for campus-wide internationalization efforts and initiatives. Global Learning is one of four units of the Center for Global Engagement. The department includes Education Abroad and Exchange, the National Student Exchange, Global Classroom programs, Global Colloborative projects, the Fulbright scholar program and is designated as a US Passport facility.

Level Scope:

Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.

Essential Functions:

60% of Time the Education Abroad and Exchange Advisor will perform:

Education Abroad Program Advising, Program management, Process management

  • Provide detailed program information regarding education abroad and National Student Exchange (NSE) sites and assist students in determining the program that best fits their needs and interests. Provide accurate program, visa, and cross-cultural advising to outbound students.
  • Advise outbound exchange students regarding transfer credit, financial aid, and academic courses to take while on exchange
  • Follows up on behalf of students on issues and concerns with Registrar, Financial Aid, Payments and Disbursements, Student Housing.
  • Understand and explain immigration rules and procedures for US students to obtain a visa in a foreign country.
  • Help students with financial aid and scholarship applications, e.g., Gilman, Freeman Asia, and other study abroad scholarships.
  • This position will also assist with all aspects of data collection and analysis for education abroad, to include producing weekly and annual enrollment reports
  • Maintain aspects of web development for GL including creating images, photos, video, etc. and creating & improving program-specific web pages, etc.
  • Communicate effectively and help students resolve problems and concerns. Many of these students have never left the US or Idaho before and are therefore unfamiliar with any of the st ps they must take to study abroad.
  • Empower students to solve problems with guidance, support and advocacy from staff

Oversee procedural operations related to education abroad programs

  • Manage student application process and ensures that all requirements (financial, health & safety, registration requirements, etc.) have been met

  • Develop and manage transfer of credits and grades between domestic and international universities

  • Coordinate student participation in exchange programs with Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Financial Services, Housing, and departments of students\' majors.

  • Updates and creates program materials and application forms

  • Assesses outcomes of programs. Develops and implements changes

    Identifies, proposes and implements improvements to current procedures and operations to the Director

  • Provide oversight for student tracking database. Create and maintain editable electronic forms used in program assessment and student tracking.

  • Create programs on GL website and track students using the ViaTRM database. Create systems to facilitate program administration.

  • Program marketing, outreach and social media
