We are seeking a Senior Ecologist (terrestrial) to join our experienced and expanding Sydney Team in a flexible and friendly working environment.

The Jacobs Ecology team deliver complex and technically challenging local and national projects for clients involved in a wide range of infrastructure and development activities, including state and national public utilities, renewable energy and resource projects, transport infrastructure, and large-scale environmental management and monitoring programs. We are seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Ecologist to our North Sydney, NSW Ecology team as we continue to build our national practice. You will provide key technical input to a range of ecological projects across various industry sectors, working as part of our established team. Your skills and experience will assist in the development of junior staff within the team.

The purpose of this role is to provide technical and professional leadership, project management and business development support within our Ecology team in NSW and other regions as required. Primary responsibilities will include leading and contributing to proposal and project opportunities by building strong relationships with clients, leading and supporting the delivery of terrestrial ecology projects, often working collaboratively with a range of disciplines; and undertaking flora and fauna assessments, including desktop assessment, field survey and reporting, as required; technical review of terrestrial ecology deliverables; and mentoring/supporting junior staff.

Here’s what you’ll need :

Degree in a relevant science discipline (ecology, environmental science, natural resource management)

Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience in the delivery of ecology projects with a focus on flora survey, preferably in the Sydney Bioregion (NSW).

  • High level expertise in NSW flora and Plant Community Type identification

  • Experience in, and desire to be involved in business development

  • Willingness to undertake intra or interstate travel, including the occasional extended trip (negotiable)

  • Highly developed report writing skills and demonstrated experience in the Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills. Including the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines

  • Current driver’s license

  • 4WD training and experience, or willingness to complete training

Desirable competencies:

  • Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) accreditation

  • Ornithology expertise including bird identification skills / survey experience

  • Experience in fauna survey

  • GIS skills and experience including use of ESRi ArcGIS Pro and Field Maps for data collection and analysis

  • Working knowledge of new technologies in field survey and analysis
